Engraved Roll Solutions

Explore PRS’s full line of engineered engraved rolls—including industrial embossing rollers, gravure print cylinders, and custom glue and metering rollers—built for high-speed converting, surface precision, and repeatable performance.

Engraved Embossing Rolls

Quality meets craftsmanship in PRS engraved rolls. With patterns available from one of the world’s largest libraries of textures or a design unique to your business, our experts can produce what you need, when you need it.

Glue and Metering Rolls

The glue and metering rollers are the precision components within the corrugator starch application process. We understand that precise glue application is a fundamental requirement to minimize warp and reduce raw material costs.

Gravure Print Cylinders

We design and manufacture rotogravure print rolls that transfer lifelike images for a wide variety of end-user products - Flooring, Wall coverings, Metals, & Decorative Films industries. We also offer rolls with gravure functionality for Paper Towel bonding, Pharmaceuticals, Films, & many other industries.

FAQs about Engraved Rolls

What are engraved rolls used for?

Engraved rolls are used to transfer a repeatable surface effect onto a substrate—most commonly to emboss texture, apply/meter adhesives, or transfer high-resolution images (gravure printing/coating).

Which engraved roll type do I need: embossing roll, glue/metering roll, or gravure print cylinder?
  • Embossing rolls: add texture/function/appearance (pattern transfer).
  • Glue & metering rolls: control adhesive film and gap control for corrugating starch application.
  • Gravure print cylinders: use engraved cell geometry to hit print/coating targets with controlled ink/coating transfer.
What information should I provide to quote a new engraved roll or replacement?

To get an accurate quote fast, provide: roll type + application goal, substrate and chemistry, machine/OEM info, speed/temperature/nip conditions (if relevant), and roll dimensions (OD/face width/OAL/journals). If you don’t have documentation, PRS can start with Roll Identification (photo + what you know → engineers identify → options/quote).

Can you match an existing pattern or create a custom pattern from a sample?

Yes. Many customers start by matching/modifying an existing pattern or developing a new one. PRS supports high-resolution scanning/digital pattern creation and rapid prototypes of sample textures, backed by a large pattern library.

What engraving options are available, and how do I choose between them?

PRS offers mechanical, chemical, electro-mechanical, and laser engraving (selection depends on substrate, durability needs, resolution/depth, and the performance target).

How do I specify gravure cylinder cell geometry to hit coating weight or print targets?

Start with your target outcome (ink laydown/coating/adhesive transfer), then align cell geometry to: viscosity window, press speed/doctoring, and required consistency. PRS gravure cylinders include custom cell geometry and plating options designed to meet specific print/coating targets.

Should I refurbish/re-engrave/re-chrome or replace an engraved roll?

Refurbishment is often the best path when the roll body is good but performance has degraded. PRS offers refurbishment/repair services such as journal rebuild/replacement, re-engraving, roll face resurfacing, rebalancing, and rechromes, plus gravure cylinder re-engraving and re-chroming and legacy restoration.

What is TIR, and why does it matter for corrugator glue & metering rolls?

TIR affects gap stability and uniform adhesive application. PRS notes glue and metering rolls are key to glue application and gap control, are manufactured to tighter TIR than OEMs, and are positioned to support consistent coat weight and help minimize warp/reduce raw material costs.
